Degenerative Disc Disease


Degenerative Disc Disease is caused by the wearing away or degeneration of the spaces between the vertebrae (bones of your back) along your spine.

The areas of the body that can be associated with degeneration are:

  • Neck (Cervical Disc Degeneration)
  • Mid Back (Thoracic Disc Degeneration)
  • Low Back (Lumbar Disc Degeneration)

The types of activities or issues that can eventually cause degeneration of the discs between your vertebrae include but are not limited to:

  • Repetitive bending or lifting
  • Repetitive twisting or turning
  • Heavy weight bearing activities
  • Family history
  • Osteoporosis
