Scoliosis is an abnormal curving of the spine that can occur in any area of the spine: neck (cervical), midback (thoracic) and/or low back (lumbar). Scoliosis can be the result of a congenital (birth problem), genetic problem and/or muscle imbalance. Physical therapy can be used to slow or reverse the effects of scoliosis by stretching muscle, strengthening muscle and/or stabilizing muscles and joints.
