Frozen shoulder is referred to as stiffness of the shoulder joint or joints involving the humerus (upper arm bone), clavicle (collar bone) and/or scapula (shoulder blade). Trauma, pain and decreased use of the arm or shoulder region can be the cause of frozen shoulder. If you suffer from frozen shoulder, you can then experience pain, decreased range of motion, decreased strength and poor functional use of your arm.
The following include but are not limited to causes of frozen shoulder:
- People who have undergone shoulder surgery
- Someone who has fallen onto their arms
- A tear in the shoulder muscles
- Extreme shoulder/arm overuse and pain
