Sciatica is a common diagnosis and mis-diagnosis that affects many people. It is caused by pain, pressure, compression and/or irritation of the sciatic nerve. This nerve is formed by a combination of several nerves that run from the low back and innervate (supply) the leg. The pain that you can experience may run from the low back, back of the hip, buttocks and/or down the back of the thigh.
Sciatic pain can be disabling for many people but can be treated effectively through physical therapy.
Activities and causes of sciatica include but are not limited to the following:
- Tight muscles
- Bone spurs
- Sedentary lifestyles
- Joint misalignment
- Disc Herniation
